In September of 2023, we took a sea / land trip on Holland America. The ship le
ft out of Vancouver, BC and set in to Juneau, the capitol, where we took an excursion to view the Mendenhall Glacier and waterfall. From there, we went to Skagway and toured the beautiful mountainous area. From Skagway, we left the ship and started a land tour. The first leg was a scenic train trip up into the mountains overlooking the deep valley below, and finally into Canada where we switched to a to
ur bus. From there, we traveled to Whitehorse in the Yukon and got an education on the history there. From Whitehorse, we traveled much further north to Dawson City, site of the 1898 gold rush and home to writers Jack London and Pierre Berton, as well as poet Robert Service. Read our Christmas letter for 2023 for more details of this fascinating town. After Dawson City, we proceeded to Denali National Park in Alaska for a tour of the area surrounding the highest mountain in the US, then to Fairbanks, and finally ending in Anchorage.
